Small Grant Fund
The Small Grant Fund, provided by a portion of the student activity fees, is available to recognized student organizations in support of events, activities, and student-led programs/initiatives that contribute to the quality of campus life at CNU. There are two types of expenses that the Small Grant Fund supports: 1) Event and Programming Expenses and 2) Operating Expenses. Event and Programming expenses are those associated with hosting an event on campus, while Operating expenses are those that are necessary to maintain and support the purpose of the organization.
It is the responsibility of the student organization to provide justification of cost estimates for the items that are requested through a Small Grant application. Funds are restricted for programs and/or services primarily targeting an audience of currently enrolled students at Christopher Newport University. Funding priority will be given to those organizations offering on campus events and programs that occur on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday nights and are free for students to attend. All funding requests will be reviewed based on how the request helps the organization meets it mission, how well expenses are justified/estimated with appropriate supporting documentation, whether it is fundable within the framework of the funding programs, and whether or not there is sufficient funding to allocate.
Co-sponsorships between student organizations are encouraged. Requests must show the organizational contributions through funding and/or labor. Requesting organizations must demonstrate specific responsibilities in the cosponsorship. The Small Grant Committee may request a copy of the co-sponsorship agreement.
